Nineteenth-Century Travel Writing
William Senior (1837-1920), author of By Stream and Sea, Waterside Sketches, and Notable Shipwrecks, provided a detailed account of his fishing holidays in Tasmania and New Zealand in Travel and Trout in the Antipodes. Portions of the work had previously appeared in Brisbane weeklies the Queenslander and The Week. Senior begins his narrative in Brisbane before travelling through Sydney and Melbourne on the way to Tasmania. His Tasmanian trip commenced in Launceston and moved through the midland towns before culminating in Hobart and surrounding fishing attractions. The second part of this conversational narrative chronicled Senior's time in New Zealand.
