19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
William Forster (1818-1882) was a politician, Agent-General for New South Wales and the grandson of Gregory Blaxland. In Information for Australian Emigrants Forster presented a short emigrant guide that was an expansion of a work originally prepared for The Globe. It was intended as a cheap and easily accessible guide for intending emigrants and emphasised New South Wales as an ideal colony for middle class small capitalists. Forster discussed the economic climate of Australia, the political situation, the weather, gold digging, and Aboriginal peoples.
