Nineteenth-Century Travel Writing
Scottish born John McKinlay (1819-1872) was an explorer and grazier who led the South Australian Burke Relief expedition in search of Burke and Wills. This book is a published version of his diary, addressed to the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands. As the leader of the Relief Expedition, McKinlay's journal was an account of his party's attempt to locate Burke. It was detailed in its description of wind, weather, location, and their encounters with the Aboriginal population.
