BiographyHistory

'Denise Ferris is an educator and visual artist, head of the ANU School of Art & Design in Canberra. Advocating for tertiary art and design practice, she chaired the Australian Council of Universities of Art and Design (ACUADS) for two terms. Her photographs of rural NSW, where she has lived for over 20 years, address environmental sustainability, climate change, the aesthetics of the sublime and connection to place. Her writing focuses upon the power of the visual to represent issues in care work, the maternal relationship, and mothering. Work in public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Library of Australia, and the Australian War Memorial.' (Hecate Vol. 45, Iss. 1/2)
