  • 19th-Century Australian Travel Writing

    John Bate, the Secretary to the Colonial Emigration Society (est. 1862 in Birmingham), published the short pamphlet Emigration to the British Colonies to present practical information for potential emigrants. The guide includes a fold-out table detailing what sort of people were required for each colony, as well as brief descriptions of demography, urban centres, infrastructure and transport, climate, historical information, and voyage options for each Canadian and Australian colony.
