BiographyHistory

Cavalier poet who fought for Charles I in the English Civil War. Lovelace is best remembered for two quotations from his poetry: 'Stone walls do not a prison make' ('To Althea, from Prison') and 'I could not love thee, dear, so much / Loved I not honour more' ('To Lucasta, Going to the Warres').
