BiographyHistory

Born in Melbourne in the 1950's, Greg Bridges displayed an early interest in worlds of fantasy and in futuristic landscapes. His childhood fascination with science fiction films and literature proved to be a powerful design stimulant when combined with the inspirational works of Salvador Dali, whom Bridges discovered in high school.

Initially working in advertisement design, Bridges has since gone on to become an acclaimed artist in the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia. His works appear as magazine cover art, novel cover art and in major motion pictures around the world.

He most recently completed work doing concept design for the third Narnia film instalment "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" where he constructed the look of the film's dragon-figurehead ship the 'Dawn Treader'.

Bridges separates his own art style into the categories of futuristic, fantasy, surreal and traditional – demonstrating his versatility in style and artistic content. His keen eye for detail grounds all of his work, however fantastic, in a basis of reality that gives the pieces credibility.

Bridges career has spanned over 30 years and in that time he has won the Vivian C. Parker, Macquarie University Award for Fine Art; the Pan Pacific Advertising award; the Design Down Under Awards for Excellence in Design; the Packers' Prize in the Archibald Prize Competition; the International Communication Arts Award for Excellence in Illustration; Worldcon's Best Colour Professional Work Award and Design and Illustration Awards in the National Print Awards.

Internationally recognised in his field, Greg Bridges is an illustrator who is fast bringing science fiction out of the basement and into the world of fine art.
