BiographyHistory

Mooradoop (Kathy Mills) was a prominent Northern Territory Indigenous elder.

Born Kathleen Marry McGinness in Katherine, she was the daughter of Kingarli (later called Polly Wakelin), a Gurindji woman who was one of the Stolen Generations, and John ('Jack') McGinness (Kingulawuy), Australia's first elected Aboriginal union leader.

She was a prominant activist in alcohol policy, education (in which she was involved in the establishment of Batchelor College, now Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education), language maintenance, and the enquiry into the Stolen Generations.

She died in May 2022. Among her children are the members of the musical group the Mills Sisters.
