BiographyHistory

'Serena Thompson is a Mamu Waribarra woman from Far North Queensland, up on the tableland region. She has studied Creative Writing in Naarm at the University of Melbourne. She uses writing as an outlet for exhaustion in living in such a white world and so far away from her home and family. She finds that poetry is a way to subvert Western grammatical confines, often writing in broken sentences and using lingo or historically violent terms as a way to reclaim them. She finds this an effective way in decolonising my mind and the spaces that exist in, especially university.
