BiographyHistory

A Mexican woman, performer, and singer, born in 1834 with both a genetic condition and rare disease that modified her appearance, Julia Pastrana married Theodore Lent in 1854, and worked in his sideshow under a number of different appellations. She died in childbirth in 1860, along with her son; Lent subsequently had both his wife and son taxidermied, and they remained on display for some time. She was buried 150 years after her death.
