Raised and trained in Australia, she then moved to the Royal Ballet School, and from there danced at Ballet Rambert and the Royal Ballet. Returning to Australia in 1970, she became resident principal dancer with the Australian Ballet, remaining in the role until 1976. Known for her partnerships with Rudolf Nureyev, she later taught ballet in Perth, Western Australia.
