AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'Walmajarri country is in the Great Sandy Desert, south of the Fitzroy Valley. It is just one of many language groups from this desert region.

'Jesse Moora is a Walmajarri woman who lives in the Yakanarra community, a couple of hours south of Fitzroy Crossing. Her family was one of the first to settle at Yakanarra 25 years ago. Jesse and some of the other new arrivals brought a lot of kids with them, so they set up a school in a shed. She has been teaching Walmajarri to the children there for 24 years.' (Introduction)
