'"If I make this jump, we win," Ella said. "And if I don't?"

'"We lose ..." Mrs Sutton looked away, adjusting her glasses. "Again!"

'In the crowd of people who had gathered around to watch the high jump, Ella spotted her mother, father and grandma. Her mother and father stood apart, looking uncomfortable in each other's company. They were always like that since the separation.
