'Ursula Dubosarsky is one of Australia's foremost writers for children and young adults. Her list of awards is almost as long as her list of published works and very well deserved. Her most acclaimed work The Red Shoe was included in the International title ‘1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up’. She's won the Premier’s Literary Award for New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, and Victoria (and most or more than one occasion). Everyone loves Ursula. Her most recent book The Blue Cat is an exquisite addition to her body of work. ' (Introduction)

    • 1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up was compiled by British journalist Julie Eccleshare MBE.
    • Ursula remembers being influenced by Wanda Gag’s Gone Is Gone and the works of Dr. Seuss as a child.
    • Ursula also remembers learning about her parents through the books they read, including Iris Murdoch’s A Severed Head and The Nice and the Good (from her mother) and Donald Thomas’ Hanged in Error.
    • Ursula does not tend to share early drafts of her work, although when she does, she shares with fellow author Kate De Goldi.
    • Ursula enjoys the novels and picture books of Sonya Hartnett.
