Taryn Bashford grew up in England, to which the her family emigrated in 1979, when she was nine.
She studied English Literature at Exeter University in Devon, from which she graduated in 1992. After university, she worked in advertising, marketing, and media for British magazines, in sales for newspapers, and in television.
She returned to Australia in 2001, originally to Sydney and later to Queensland.
