BiographyHistory

Originally founded as the British arm of French film production company Gaumont, Gaumont-British became independent in 1922. An additional company, Gaumont-British Picture Corp. of America, managed American distribution of British films until 1938, when that function was outsourced to 20th Century Fox.

The Rank Organisation bought both Gaumont-British and its sister organisation Gainsborough Pictures in 1941.
