'The Cyclades are a group of islands in the Aegean Sea where, for many years, I have spent my summer vacation and where these poems were written. Most are about the islands themselves, some are on themes and ideas which occurred to me while I was there, enjoying the open blue sky and the apparently endless expanse of the surrounding sea.'
