'Jack Gordon and his sister Harriett have reached the home of Aelf Ethelwulf’s druid master. They have been joined by Anarra, a part-elvish girl who faces a mysterious danger. Jack is learning fast that the magic of Anwynn is changing him. He is having thoughts and feelings that make him wonder who he is becoming, not the least the intense feelings he has for Anarra. Just when Jack thought they were safe, he and Harriett find themselves in danger again, under attack by dark forces. They end up in the wilds of Anwynn, all alone, if you don’t count the halfling Dorothea Butters. Somehow no-one ever does count Dorothea. But there is more to Dorothea Butters than meets the eye, and more wonder and danger in Anwynn than even Harriett could ever imagine.'
