History

Inaugurated in 1945, the Wagga Play Competition was promoted by the Wagga Wagga School of Arts Literary and Dramatic Society. The aim of the competition was to 'encourage playwrights to provide one-act plays suitable for repertory and amateur theatrical groups.' It was open to all residents of Australia and New Zealand. The winning writer was awarded  £30. Judging was by members of the Playwrights' Advisory Board, Sydney.
