BiographyHistory

'Stephen Gaukroger was educated at the Universities of London, where he studied philosophy, and Cambridge, where he completed a PhD in the history and philosophy of science. He has been at the University of Sydney since 1981, where he is Emeritus Professor of History of Philosophy and History of Science. His publications include Descartes, An Intellectual Biography (1995), Francis Bacon and the Transformation of Early-Modern Philosophy (2001), Descartes’ System of Natural Philosophy (2002), The Emergence of a Scientific Culture (2006), The Collapse of Mechanism and the Rise of Sensibility (2010), Objectivity (2012), and The Natural and the Human (2016).'
