Tahlia Newland is an author of fantasy and magical realist fiction, and as of 2016 was based in the Illawarra region in New South Wales. She was born and raised in New Zealand, where she trained as a primary school teacher and worked for one year before moving to Australia. She left her teaching career early on to work in Visual Theatre, where for twenty years she wrote scripts, made masks and costumes, and performed as a dancer, mime, and clown. She is a Tibetan Buddhist and has taught meditation since 1999.
Tahlia is also a creator of steampunk clothing and accessories. which she sells online.
