'The Sydney-based writer Anthony Macris has a modest body of published works: two novels, some shorter pieces and a memoir centred on his family's experience of autism. Not surprisingly, therefore, he is not as well-known outside literary circles as he should be. There is, nevertheless, another reason why his is not a household name among readers of recent fiction. His novels and short stories do not fit the mould of what constitutes these days marketable "products".
