History

The Herald Verse Competition were held under the provisions of a grant of £30,000 set aside by the proprietors of the Herald for the development of Australian literature and art.

The prizes offered were: Novels, £2,000, £1,000, and £500.Short stories, £ 100, £50, and 10 prizes each of £20. Poem (on any subject and of any length), £50,- £25, and £10. (http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article18088448)
