History

The Bulletin ’ offered a prize of £5 for the best story by a new writer. Only those who had not previously had stories published in The Bulletin were eligible. Stories had to be short—1500 to 3000 words.  In addition to the prize-money stories were published and paid for at the rate of  £2 2s. for each 1000 words. (http://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-578641181)
