The Write Now! YPRL Short Story Competition was presented by Yarra Plenty Regional Library. The contest had an open theme, and cash and book prizes. The winners were published in an anthology sponsored by Busybird Publishing and Design.

'Writenow! 2011 is a creative writing competition presented by Sydney Writers' Festival and The Sydney Morning Herald. Students choose one of the three 'Story Starters' provided by bestselling children's authors -Belinda Jeffrey, Bernard Beckett and Michael Pryor - then continue the narrative, completing a short story. The story must be no more than 1000 words in total, including the story starter. Students must be in Year 7, 8 or 9 in NSW or the ACT. Entries must be the original work of the student, written during 2011. The story should no more than 1000 words in total, including the story starter.
