Notes

  • The Children's Book Awards were introduced in 1982 and sponsored by the New Zealand Government Printer, with the aim of providing recognition for New Zealand children's books and their writers and illustrators. AIM Toothpaste took over sponsorship from 1990-1996 inclusive, in 1997 New Zealand Post became the sponsors.

Awards are made in four categories: Young Adult Fiction, Junior Fiction, Non-fiction, Picture Book. Five finalists are selected for each category and from these a winner in each category is selected.
