The Michael Thwaites Poetry Award is named after the Australian poet who passed away in Canberra at age ninety in 2005. The award is administrated by the ACT Writers' Centre.

Formerly called the ACT Writers Centre Poetry Award. In memory of Kings Medal award winning poet, and former ACT Writers Centre member Michael Thwaites who died in late 2005.
