The Monte Miller Award, for an un-produced script by an associate member of the Australian Writers' Guild, was first offered in 1972. It was not offered between 1976 and 1979.
Since 2008, it has been offered in two categories: Long Form (over 30 minutes) and Short Form (under 30 minutes).
In 2024, the award was renamed the Emerging Writers' Awards, and offered, as with the Monte Miller, in two categories: long form and short form.
