History

This prize, for a single poem, is available to ACT-based poets and is valued at a total of $5,000 ($3,000 for the winner and $1,000 for two runners-up). This award ran from 2003-2013.

Notes

  • Inaugurated in 2003 by the ACT Government, this award aims to encourage and reward excellence in poetry by both new and established poets. The prize for the first year of the award was $2,000.

    In 2005 the award was re-named the National Poetry Prize and opened to poets outside the ACT. The categories were increased from one to four with a total prize pool of $20,000.
