Theatre Royal, single work review
— Review of Don Caesar de Bazan 1844 single work drama ;
Mr Montgomery took his benefit last evening before a crowded theatre. 'Don Caesar de Bazan' was performed, with Mr Montgomery demonstrating his flair for comedy as the light-hearted, but honourable, Spanish grandee. After the performance Mr Montgomery made a speech in which he thanked the Ballarat audiences for their attendance, declared his hope he would return to Ballarat, and commended the press for their critiques, which he said showed they were both 'gentlemen and scholars'. He also reminded the audience that Mr Simmonds would take a benefit on Friday night, at which Mr Montgomery would play his favourite character, Lavater.
