  • According to Evelyn's obituary (the Empire, 20 February, 1857), this work was written at Darlinghurst Gaol. It first appeared in the Empire on 27 December, 1856, with the author's name given as 'E.' The composition place and date were given as 'Sydney, December 12, 1856.'
