  • Author's note: SIR, The accompanying lines were found on the Surrey Hills, travelling with the wind to the S. E. I am sorry it is not in my power to convey them to their destination, but it is only surmise on my part, and I therefore send them to you. I conjecture from their tenor that they were the accompaniment to a rose which had been entrusted to the chance finder in some secret spot:
