AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'Yielding to the persuasions of a plausible stranger, Captain Alvacore, who one day arrived at the island in the New Hebrides where he and his son Frank run a plantation, Richard Falconer consents to go aboard the Captain's schooner and sail for a mysterious island which is worth claiming for Britain as being rich in uranium. Frank goes with him, also the plantation's Kanakas, all at Alvacore's request. Almost at once it become evident that there is dirty work on hand; what is the mystery of the possession, by one of the schooner's crew, of a cap belonging to the commander of a lost French naval craft? With the co-operation of the famous Air Commodore Gaunt and various other friends, the secret is eventually revealed - and a strange one it is, the centre of a plot which might well have had widespread and tragical results.'
