The animals are miserable as the White Man is burning the fallen jungle. Bruang the bear tells a story of the arrogant water-buffalo and how it shows 'it is a mistake to bite off more than you can chew'. He also declares he is a friend of the White Man because he was saved and reared to independence by one after his mother was killed.
