Notes

  • The final issue of the Clermont Telegram, 6 May 1981, published a series of articles by Rod Kirkpatrick on the early years of the Peak Downs Telegram.
  • Rod Kirkpatrick (Clermont Telegram, 6 May 1981, p. 3) gives 4 October 1864 as the date for the first issue of the Peak Downs Telegram. Library catalogues generally give 2 August 1864 as the start date. Kirkpatrick claims that Buzacott purchased printing plant in Sydney and had it sent to Rockhampton. He further states that the plant was placed on a dray to Clermont in September 1864; Buzacott followed 'by springcart with a printer and two 14-year old boys' and arrived in Clermont after '13 days' camping out'.
