AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A movie spoof of 'The Girl Who Took the Wrong Turnip', performed in pantomime.

Notes

  • A note by Reid in the manuscript suggests that 'The flicker I think should be obtained by a rough 2 bladed propeller revolved in front of a continuous spotlight.'

  • No production details have yet been located. The Pat Hanna Collection manuscript versions of Awkward Squad indicate, however, that Bert Reid's contact address was 'Care of the Famous Diggers at St Kilda'. The troupe is known to have played at least three seasons at St Kilda between October 1920 and March 1923.

  • This entry has been sourced from on-going historical research into Australian popular theatre being conducted by Professor Richard Fotheringham and Dr Clay Djubal.
