A railway is being constructed and a labourer and his frail mate come looking for employment. The labourer enjoys fighting but heeded his mate to stop every time. His mate gets sick, the labourer fetches the doctor. The ending is totally unexpected.

Two telegraph operators man an isolated outpost in central Australia. One of them is promoted but contracts typhoid. His partner nurses him back to health but contracts typhoid himself. While sick he is also promoted but dies before he can enjoy it.

The tale of a young man who has come to Australia looking to marry an heiress. He secures a position as a private secretary to the governor and it is the governor's wife who sets him up with a grazier's daughter. However, a few problems are encountered before a mutually satisfactory conclusion is reached.
