  • Author's note: 'The state of things brought to light in the paragraph of The Worker of October 28th concerning the making of bags for the Meat Company calls for another Hood to write another song, not of the 'shirt', but of the calico bags. However, as he is not forthcoming, we may, with very little alteration, apply the 'Song of the Shirt'. The following is not a parody, but an adaption [sic].' (The reference is to 'The Song of the Shirt', by the English poet and author Thomas Hood (1799-1845).)
