A one-act play in which an estranged wife comes back to her husband's bush home, pregnant by the lover who has subsequently abandoned her, and finds that her husband is not inclined for a reconciliation.

  • The Giant won first prize in a one-act play competition for Queensland writers, conducted by the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) of Brisbane, in August 1932. The text was subsequently published in Brisbane newspaper The Telegraph (as were three additional competition plays), and in 1933, the play was performed by the WEA.
  • The alternate title Death Comes for a Giant is given on the manuscript copy held in the Hanger Collection.

Production Details

  • Produced by the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) of Brisbane in early October 1933, with another one-act play by a Brisbane writer, Brotherhood (Doris Waraker).

    Cast: Ewart Collings (Jack Kane), Gwen Harrison (Moya Kane), Laura Lydgate (Mrs O'Sullivan), and Lawrence Collings (Tommy O'Sullivan).
