1 'Poor Gaels Are Tormented, Troubled and in Sorry Plight': Reimagining an Anti-colonial Irish Performance Tradition through the Voices of Australian Female Convicts Melita Rowston , 2024 single work criticism
— Appears in: Australasian Drama Studies , April no. 84 2024; (p. 12-45)

'As if catapulted from an abyss, Alanna O'Kelly's ear-splitting wail lodges in my chest and pulsates between my breasts. A shiver spins down my neck. I imagine her body convulsing as she emits each wave of sound. Her pitch deepens as her sonic force descends through me. It staggers, withers, elongates. It is as if she is choking on her own voice.' 1 Cockroach Melita Rowston , 2019 single work drama

'An amoral revenge tale for the #MeToo generation, 'Cockroach' is a blackly comic prose-poem/grunge-cabaret about female anger.

'When C wakes from a nightmare she finds herself transformed into a monstrous vermin. For too long she's yearned to behave badly. Tonight's her night of reckoning!

'Disrupting Kafka and Ovid's Metamorphoses 'Cockroach' explores the silencing following abuse and the transformations that occur from it. Featuring a live score on drums, keys and Fender Strat it's an anthem for our times: furious, funny and hopeful.'

1 Between the Streetlight & the Moon Melita Rowston , 2017 single work drama

'Zadie is writing a book that’s going to blow the international art world apart… or so she’s been telling everyone for nine years. She claims her book will prove once and for all that an illicit affair between Belle Epoque artists Eduoard Manet and Berthe Morisot actually occurred. There’s only one problem – she can’t find the letter that proves her theory; and she happens to be the only academic who believes this letter exists. Obsessed with what she believes to be a 'perfect' love affair between two dead artists, one that she has largely been able to chart through a series of 11 intimate, fraught and exposing portraits, Zadie has buried herself in papers, archives, dossiers and letters to the point where her grip on reality is becoming uncertain.'

'Follow your dreams … no matter how shit they are.

'Once upon a time, a tiny Victorian town called Korumburra faced perilous economic decline, until a group of locals decided to capitalise on what they had bigger and better than anyone else in the world – a giant worm.

'One hundred metres of pink material, two golf buggy wheels and a roll of poly pipe later, Karmai, the giant pink worm puppet was born. Manipulated by hundreds of worm boys and girls, this blind, deaf and boneless folk hero took the world by storm!

'Enchanted and disturbed by childhood memories of road trips to ‘Big Things’, your intrepid host Melita “Molly” Rowston goes on a fantastical journey into Worm Country. Trapped in a cheap motel room with a talking tree and a mangy ostrich, Molly hopes to unearth a local legend that will teach her to live the life she once imagined.'
