Gurr's script shifts between the spoken and unspoken, between what these family members choose to reveal to one another, and what they prefer to conceal. "Our Beautiful Daughter" is a sensitive and often comic portrayal of the tensions between individual lives and the family.'

When she gets involved with a mysterious figure higher up in the socialist movement, the group careers towards a much more dangerous mission. Against this plot is the story of her ex-husband, a journalist who is preserving the ideas of a dying elder socialist statesman, cast out by the mainstream.'
