BiographyHistory

George Mung Mung was a cultural leader, artist and teacher of the Warmun community. He worked as a stockman for many years on stations in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia. In 1990 he won the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award.

His father's name was Yalanga and he belonged to Kurlungurru country in the Kimberley area of Western Australia. Yalanga was employed as a tracker for the police in the area of Turkey Creek in Western Australia.

His statue of Mary of Warmun forms the frontispiece of the Australian edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
