BiographyHistory

Tony Abbott was elected to Federal Parliament as the member for the seat of Warringah, New South Wales, in a by-election in 1994. He served as a minister in various portfolios, including Employment and Workplace Relations, and Health and Ageing, in the Howard Government. In December 2009, Abbott was elected leader of the Liberal Party and, consequently, Leader of the Opposition. In 2013, he became the 28th Prime Minister of Australia.
