BiographyHistory

Nachum Gurewicz was born into a learned Jewish family in Imperial Russia and lived in the USSR until 1950. In Australia, mindful of the pressures to assimilate, he joined with a small group of similarly minded people and was instrumental in establishing Lubavitch Chassidism. The association, also known as Chabad, has become an influential religious group in the Australian Jewish community.
