A story of male friendship and a romance, set around a country station. A murder trial separates the lovers, the hero sailing to New York and to England to clear his name, but returns just as she marries another. The hero goes mad and soon dies. (PB)

Told aboard ship on a journey from Victoria to Liverpool in 1856, the story of a sailor's brother saving his ship from disaster in 1836 through a ghostly appearance. The tale also serves to save a flirt from a declaration of love. (PB)
