1 y separately published work icon The Poetry of Farming Geoffrey R. Lilburne , Port Adelaide : Ginninderra Press , 2023 27233425 2023 selected work poetry

'Fulfilling a lifelong dream and buying a rural property, the writer is surprised to discover the farm becomes a rich source of poetic inspiration. This collection is the outcome of over three decades of reflection and writing about the joys and sorrows of a small farmer. With boyhood memories of Australian wheat-belt farms and ideas from Wendell Berrys agrarian writing, the author sets out to discover his own reality of farming on this hillside property. Get big or get outis perhaps the counter mantra of this collection, as the struggle to find sufficiency in being small and unprofitable defines the lived experience of farming. Deeper considerations emerge, as a growing awareness of the destructive nature of Australian agriculture tempers any romantic notions of life on the land. In the end, it is the agrarian spirit, the sense of a true community of nature, which activates and sustains this collection.'  (Publication summary)

1 y separately published work icon The Life Between Geoffrey R. Lilburne , Port Adelaide : Ginninderra Press , 2020 20326890 2020 selected work poetry 'The Life Between reflects an observation of Tim Winton’s that West Australians feel caught between sea and desert.
'The first of the collection’s three sections, ‘Looking out to Sea’, speaks of how coastline has shaped the poet’s consciousness, whether in the communities that spring up suddenly or reflective moments of looking across the waves.
'‘The Lives we Know’ tells a story of growing up in the surrounds of Perth in the middle of the twentieth century, and conveys the variety and richness of human relationships, from love poems to parenting narratives.
'The final section, ‘On the Land’, speaks of the poet’s life as a small farmer, his sense of the passage of the seasons, the trials and joys of rural living and the beauty of its landscapes. We hear the voice of lament and also the coming to terms with the experience of not being ‘big’ and not ‘getting out’.' (Publication summary)
