Jim Morlock spent most of his life in Kingston, Ontario before coming to Australia. He gained a BSc in geology at Queens University, Kingston, Ontario, in 1968, then migrated to Western Australia to work for International Nickel at Kalgoorlie. He took 6 months off, got a motor cycle and toured Australia and NZ, before transferring to the Bureau of Mineral Resources and moving to Darwin. A year later he moved to Alice Springs where he lived for three years.
He moved to Canberra in 1974 and moved into the clerical side of the public service. He was the third generation in his family to do a correspondence course; his was on short story writing. He had stories and articles published in motor cycle magazines.
He moved to Adelaide in 1987 where he joined the Kensington and Norwood writing club and Wordweavers.
