BiographyHistory

Eldest of five children of Christiaan and Nelly Bleijs, Marie Therese Morlock came to Adelaide with her family in 1955. She attended Unley High School, then graduated from Western Teachers' College, going on to teach at schools at Warooka, Darwin and Alice Springs. She married Jim Morlock and moved to Canberra, where she worked as a public servant for eleven years before the introduction of computers 'drove her crazy', as she says, and she was invalided out of her job. She then trained as a masseur. She was divorced, and moved to Byron Bay, where she was a masseur for nursing homes. In 1998 she returned to Adelaide to look after her mother, who had emphysema. She continues to massage elderly people.

Morlock has self-published books of poetry which reflect her concern for the environment. Writing in rhyming verse, which she considers to be a family ability, she has used poetry to communicate environmental issues to children. She sent copies of her book Let's Keep the Planet Blue to schools, and received a number of verse responses from children.
