Shaw's first transcription yielded nearly 800 pages of text. ...Jack Sullivan spoke in a style mid-way between Pidgin/Creole English and a colloquial bush slang used by white stockmen. Dialogue was an intrinsic part of the oral tradition upon which Jack was drawing and consequently Bruce Shaw has written Jack's accounts in standard colloquial English, while rendering direct speech in Aboriginal English.'
