BiographyHistory

Annie Egerton-Warburton was the sixth of seven children of 'Captain' John Hart and his wife Mary (née Glanville). Her father was known for many things, including establishing a whaling station at Encounter Bay in 1835, establishing a flour mill at Port Adelaide, and serving three times as Premier of South Australia.

Egerton-Warburton probably did not attend school, but had a governess at home with her sisters. She married Rowland Egerton-Warburton (son of Peter Egerton-Warburton, the explorer), and they had two sons.

John Hart died a wealthy man and when he died in 1873 he left each of his daughters very well provided for, but Annie's brother, who had been left in charge of his sisters' finances, ran off with all their money and was never seen again.

Egerton-Warburton died in 1913, and her husband died in 1918 in Victoria. Egerton-Warburton is the aunt of Marian H. Hart (q.v.).
